EDUCATING OUR COMMUNITY

Our mission is to share history

The railroads helped open up the Panhandle to the rest of the country. We are dedicated to inspiring members of our community and beyond to learn more about the railroads’ rich history and its impact on our local area by preserving and presenting invaluable artifacts from our shared history as well as providing programs that help promote lasting interest in younger generations.

Field Trips

Some things you have to see to fully understand! Bring your students to experience the history of the railroad first-hand by exploring an actual railroad depot and a variety of train cars, as well as viewing historical artifacts up-close. Museum entry is free for all visitors, but we do ask that schools to teachers wanting to schedule a field trip contact us so we can be sure we can accommodate you.

STEAM Program

A group of teachers, administrators, and WFRM members spent the week of June sixth creating the opening plans for a STEAM (Science, Technology, Arts, and Mathematics) program at the railroad museum. The week started with an in-depth tour of the museum facilities and the history of railroading in North West Florida. Throughout the week the group worked on initial plans for teaching modules that will allow the students to have hands on experience while learning the lessons provided in the different areas. We look forward to completing the plans and bringing this program to completion. We hope to start seeing student tours in the fall of 2023.
