About the exhibit
This steel boxcar was built in April 1951 by Pullman Standard in Bessemer, Alabama for the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. It is an all-welded car with a wood interior equipped with a six-foot wide door. This car is a PS1 boxcar mass produced for the railroad industry.
This car was originally assigned to handle less than a car lot (LCL) of freight between depots. As this service diminished the six-foot door was too small for fork lifts and the car was retired from revenue service and placed in maintenance of way service as a tool car for a bridge gang. It was purchased from the CSX in 1992. Now used for Museum storage.
